The best views yet from our tent as we have a great view of the town, not bad for 20 Euros a night. We have spent 4 nights here exploring the area. Friday morning we made an early visit to San Gim before the tourist coaches arrived. We climbed the tower for more great views of the countryside and tried to spy our tent. Then we treated ourselves to "the best ice cream in Tuscany" acording to the guide book and all the awards in the shop including a letter of thanks from Tony Blair! Marks chocolate orange flavour was amazing - why don't they make ice cream like that in England? In the afternoon we decided to try and buy some local wine direct from the vineyards in the area. By chance we found Croce Bibbiana where we tasted 5 wines including one that retails in the UK for £65. We bought 12 bottles of the 4Euro bottles but I don't think it will last 12 days! On to Volterra on Saturday, bagging another Tuscan hill top town although not as hard work as Munroes and with more ice cream. Our early start was thwarted by a road closed for a car race. We had another lovely lunch in a little bar before retiring to the park to write the diary where we were kept entertained by the local school children having a water fight of an epic proportion.
